Fact Sheet
Just Passing By
Mars (top center) shines brightly against the glow of the Milky Way in this image from Rosetta, a European spacecraft that will fly past Mars on the night of February 24. Rosetta will "steal" a little energy from Mars as it flies just 150 miles (250 km) above the planet, boosting it toward its main target, Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Rosetta is conducting extensive observations of Mars to test its instruments. [ESA/MPS/UPD/LAM/IAA/RSSD/INTA/UPM/DASP/IDA]
