Fact Sheet
Hidden Orion
Tendrils and bubbles of hot and cold gas and dust swirl through the constellation Orion in this infrared view from Planck, a new European space telescope that is surveying the entire sky. The bright spot at bottom center is the Orion Nebula, which is a giant stellar nursery. The bright spot right of center is the Horsehead Nebula, which is another large complex of gas and dust. The red arc is known as Barnard's Loop, and it is an expanding bubble of hot gas from a supernova explosion. [ESA/LFI-HSI Consortia]
