Fact Sheet
Ghostly Storm
What looks like a ghostly octopus at the top of this image is actually a giant storm system on the planet Saturn, shown in this computer-enhanced image from the Cassini spacecraft. The storm spans about 3,000 miles (5,000 km) from left to right, and may be the source of intense bursts of electrical static detected by Cassini. The static probably was produced by lightning bolts than are much more powerful than any on Earth. Cassini did not detect any flashes of lightning during this 10-second exposure, however.
