Fact Sheet
Beautiful in Death
Wisps of gas from an exploded star form beautiful clouds and streamers in these three close-up images from Hubble Space Telescope. The gas forms the Veil Nebula, a large ring of material from a star that exploded as a supernova several thousand years ago. The ring is expanding into space. The nebula is about 1,500 light-years away in Cygnus, the swan. [NASA/ESA/Hubble Heritage (STScI/AURA)/ESA/Hubble Collaboration]
