Fact Sheet
Rippled Saturn
Ripples and swirls decorate the upper atmosphere of Saturn in this recent image from the orbiting Cassini spacecraft. Clouds at the top of the atmosphere are stretched into globe-encircling bands by Saturn's rapid rotation on its axis. Within these bands, big storm systems develop and spin, and clouds rise and fall like those on Earth. NASA scientists enhanced this image to bring out subtle features. [NASA/JPL/SSI]
