Fact Sheet
Our Stellar Neighborhood
Our neighborhood is thinly populated, with only 25 star systems within four parsecs (13 light-years). Most of these stars are red dwarfs, which are so faint that they are not visible to the unaided eye. The closest star is Proxima Centauri, part of the Alpha Centauri system, at 4.2 light-years. The brightest of these neighbors is Sirius, the brightest star in all the night sky. [RECONS/GSU; Tim Jones]
