Fact Sheet
A Magnetic Planet
An instrument aboard the Cassini spacecraft captured this image of Saturn's magnetic field as Cassini approached the planet this summer. An artist has added Saturn and the orbit of its largest moon, Titan, to show the scale of the magnetic field. The field may be generated by the rotation of a layer of "metallic hydrogen" around the planet's dense core. [Credit: NASA/JPL/Johns Hopkins]
