Fact Sheet
Last Call
Hot lava and deposits of yellow sulfur color Tupan Patera, a volcano almost 50 miles across and 3,000 feet high on Jupiter's moon Io, in this image from the Galileo spacecraft. The dark regions are still-warm lava, red and yellow are blankets of sulfur, and green is a mixture of lava and sulfur. The red has been slightly enhanced, but otherwise the image is in true color. Galileo will make one last pass by Io this week.
