Fact Sheet
High and Bright
High-altitude "noctilucent" (night-shining) clouds form thin tendrils above a mountainpeak. These clouds, which may be related to climate change, are visible primarily at high northern and southern latitudes, although they are creeping into view in more temperate regions as well. A new Explorer satellite will study the clouds from orbit. For more information, see the September/October issue of StarDate magazine.
