McDonald Observatory's Harlan J. Smith was dedicated on November 26, 1968. It was built to help with NASA's missions to the planets, but today studies everything from comets to stars to distant galaxies. The 107-inch telescope was the third-largest in the world at the time of its dedication. [Nowlin Photography]
