Fact Sheet
Distant Cousin
A big iceball named Sedna shines feebly in the faint glow of the distant Sun in this artist's concept. Astronomers discovered Sedna last year and have studied it with ground-based telescopes and Hubble Space Telescope. It probably is several hundred miles in diameter, and it orbits beyond the "Kuiper Belt" -- a disk of icy bodies outside the realm of the planets. [Credit: NASA/JPL]
