Fact Sheet
Sky Diamond
The Rosetta spacecraft snapped this sequence of images of 2867 Steins as it sped past the asteroid on September 5. The diamond-shaped asteroid is about three miles across, and has a mile-wide impact crater on its top side. Rosetta scanned the asteroid to test its instruments for its main mission, an encounter with the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in 2014. [©2008 ESA/MPS/OSIRIS Team]
