Fact Sheet
Saturn Shines Bright
The planet Saturn puts on its best showing of the year this week. It rises at sunset, climbs high across the sky during the night, and sets around sunrise. The planet is brightest for the year, too; it looks like a bright golden star. The gold color comes from yellow, tan, and white bands of clouds atop the planet's atmosphere, which are shown in this close-up from the Voyager 1 spacecraft. The image also shows a section of Saturn's rings and two of its moons (white dots at left). [NASA]
