Fact Sheet
Showy Planet
Jupiter, the largest planet of the solar system, puts in its best showing of the year the next few days. It rises around sunset and remains visible all night. It's brightest for the year, too. It looks like a brilliant cream-colored star low in the southeast about an hour after sunset and arcing across the south during the night. This image from the Cassini spacecraft shows the planet's globe-encircling bands of clouds as well as many individual storms swirling through Jupiter's atmosphere. [Credit: NASA/JPL]
