Fact Sheet
Methane Channels
Rivulets in a hillside on Saturn's moon Titan may have been carved by flowing liquid methane, according to scientists analyzing results from the Huygens probe, which landed on Titan January 14. This view, which was put together from several images snapped as Huygens parachuted toward the surface, also shows a possible body of liquid methane (the dark area at bottom). Huygens' instruments revealed that Titan's geology is similar to Earth's, although its surface is carved by flowing methane instead of water. [Credit: ESA/NASA/Univ. Arizona]
