Fact Sheet
Hadley Rille
Hadley Rille, a collapsed lava tube, snakes across the surface of the Moon in this image by Apollo 15 astronaut James Irwin. Irwin and commander David Scott landed near the rille, on the edge of the Apennine Mountains, on July 30, 1971. They drove the first "Moon buggy" 17 miles across the surface, and gathered about 170 pounds of rock and soil.
