Fact Sheet
Icy Landing
A view from Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter shows the planned landing site of Phoenix Mars, which is scheduled to touch down on May 25. Although it looks rough in this picture, which spans many miles, the landing area is relatively smooth. Phoenix will touch down farther north than any Mars lander to date, allowing it to dig into regions that may contain deposits of frozen water. [NASA/HiRISE]
