Fact Sheet
A Melting Cone
Wisps of gas "erode" from the top of the Cone Nebula, a pillar of cold, dense gas 2,500 light-years away in the constellation Monoceros. Hot, young stars near the nebula cause the surrounding hydrogen gas to glow like a neon bulb. This image is one of the first from Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys, which space shuttle astronauts installed earlier this year. [NASA/STScI]
