Fact Sheet
Twister!
Material blown into space from the surface of a hot star forms an interstellar "twister" as it slams into the thin clouds of gas around the star. The source star is out of the frame at top left. The bright star at the bottom of the cloud may be related to it, or it may be an unrelated star that just happens to line up in the same direction in the sky. Spitzer Space Telescope captured this image of the infrared glow of the gas. [Credit: NASA/JPL/J. Bally (University of Colorado)]
