Fact Sheet
Stormy Skies
A dust storm as big as Texas rages across Mars in this October 28 image from Hubble Space Telescope. The storm forms bright orange tendrils near the middle of the disk. Mars passed closest to Earth last week, at a distance of just 43 million miles. It remains bold and bright in the night sky. It rises around sunset, climbs high overhead during the night, and sets around sunrise. It looks like a very bright star, with a definite orange tint.
