Fact Sheet
Wavy Rings
This false-color image shows waves flowing across Saturn's rings like the ripples of a rock thrown in a pond. The waves are caused by the gravitional influence of small moons, which act as "shepherds" to keep the ring particles in line. The image was compiled from data transmitted by the Cassini spacecraft, which is orbiting Saturn. [Credit: NASA/JPL/UC-Boulder]
