Fact Sheet
Wrinkly Moon
Wrinkly ridges of ice highlight the surface of Triton, the largest moon of Neptune (which is shown in the background of this composite image). Voyager 2 snapped the pictures when it flew past Neptune 15 years ago this month. Triton is one of the coldest bodies in the solar system, and the wrinkles may be tall ridges of frozen water. The short black streaks near the bottom of Triton are deposits from ice geysers that can blast plumes many miles above Triton's surface. [Credit: NASA/JPL]
