Fact Sheet
Speedy Thief
A tiny pulsar spins faster as it "steals" gas from a companion star in this illustration of the system NGC 6397. The pulsar is embedded in a disk of hot gas, so it glows blue (lower right), and beams energy into space from its poles. The pulsar in this system rotates 274 times every second.
