Fact Sheet
Last of the Great Ones
Launch of the last of NASA's "Great Observatories," the Space Infrared Telescope Facility, has been postponed from April 18 to no earlier than mid-August. As shown in this artist's concept, the telescope will look at the glow from clouds of cosmic dust and other objects that produce infrared energy. SIRTF is the fourth Great Observatory, after Hubble Space Telescope, Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory, and Chandra X-ray Observatory. [NASA/JPL]
