Fact Sheet
Gone, But Not Forgotten
A small plaque on the Spirit rover honors the crew of the space shuttle Columbia. The seven astronauts perished one year ago when the shuttle disintegrated just minutes before a scheduled landing in Florida. NASA also named Spirit's landing platform the Columbia Memorial Station to honor crew members Rick Husband, Willie McCool, Michael Anderson, Kalpena Chawla, David Brown, Laurel Clark, and Ilan Ramon.
