Fact Sheet
Shadow Man
As the Sun sets the next few days, a boulder will cast a shadow across the middle of this glyph at the entrance to a rock shelter known as the Cholla Site in the Davis Mountains of West Texas. The glyph probably depicts either two joined human figures or a human figure joined with a hand. The setting Sun shines through the crack in the boulder to the right of the glyph, creating "dagger" of sunlight on the back on the small rock shelter. The ancient skywatchers who painted the glyph may have held special Sun-worshipping rituals at the site around the summer solstice. [Damond Benningfield]
