Fact Sheet
Martian Beads
Small rock "beads," perhaps formed by volcanic eruptions, sit atop fine-grained sand in this microscopic image from the Opportunity rover on Mars. The image spans about 1.2 inches (3 cm), and the large bead at lower left is about the size of a sunflower seed. The color is roughly the same as the human eye would perceive. [Credit: NASA/JPL/USGS]
