Getting Ready
Engineers continue to prepare the Spirit rover to descend from its landing pad and begin moving around the Martian surface sometime next week. This image shows a likely early stop: a small dust-filled depression at left. Spirit will analyze the chemical composition of Martian rocks and soil and look at the rocks with a microscope. Some of the rovers solar panels are visible at lower left, with a deflated airbag and the round radio antenna at right. The tiny square at bottom center is a sundial. [Credit: NASA/JPL/Cornell]
