Fact Sheet
Frosty Morning
Patches of frost coat Martian gullies in this recent image from Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. Patches of water frost look blue-white, while frost has recently evaporated from the bright orange regions. The image, snapped from an altitude of 159 miles (250 km), shows details as small as 5 feet (1.5 meters) across in a region known as Terra Sirenum. [Credit: NASA/JPL/Univ. Arizona]
