Thousands of galaxies clump together to form strings and clusters in this map produced by the 2MASS telescope, which detects infrared energy. The map shows all the galaxies within about 500 million light-years of Earth. The arrows point out two especially dense concentrations of galaxies, the Great Attractor, which exerts a strong gravitational pull on the galaxies around it, and the Pisces-Perseus supercluster.
