Fact Sheet
Lunar Swirls
A formation known as Reiner Gamma twists across the surface of the Moon in this image from the European SMART-1 spacecraft. It is a highly magnetized formation that may have formed as the result of an ancient impact by a large asteroid. It is one of several "swirls" on the lunar surface. [Credit: ESA]
