Fact Sheet
Wisps of hydrogen and oxygen gas glow brightly in this Hubble Space Telescope image of NGC 2080, the Ghost Head Nebula. New stars are forming from this cloud of gas, which spans several light-years. Newly born stars pump out lots of ultraviolet radiation, which "energizes" the gas, causing it to emit visible light. Red and blue light come from clouds of hydrogen, while oxygen glows green.
