Fact Sheet
Loopy Sun
A loop of hot gas blasts off the surface of the Sun in one of the first images from Solar Dynamics Observatory, NASA's latest Sun-watching satellite. Known as a solar prominence, the loop is bigger than Earth. It erupted from a magnetic storm on the Sun's surface. [NASA/SDO/AIA]
